The 2008 Juno Nominees
Avril Lavigne
Nominated for: Juno Fan Choice Award, Single of the Year, Album of the Year, Artist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year
Given the Junos' undying devotion to sales figures, Avril is sure to take home a couple of tokens. I’d lay my bets on Single of the Year for “Girlfriend.” Though Feist deserves it for her “1234” breakthrough, Lavigne’s “Hey Hey You You” hook was admittedly inescapable. But that nomination for songwriter has to be an ironic joke.
All last year, the pop-punk princess was plagued by plagiarism rumours—Chantal Kreviazuk and Peaches both claimed similarities to their own songs—and a lawsuit from 70s rockers The Rubinoos, who penned “I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend” was settled out of court for an undisclosed sum.
